What Is Bid Writing?
Bid writing is the process of preparing a structured, persuasive response to a formal procurement opportunity, whether that’s an Invitation to Tender (ITT), a Request for Proposal (RFP), or a framework application. A bid writer analyses the buyer’s scoring criteria, gathers evidence from your business, and drafts responses designed to score as highly as possible against that criteria, not just to read well.
In the UK, “bid writing” and “tender writing” are generally used to mean the same thing. Some buyers and sectors favour one term over the other, but the underlying skill is identical: producing clear, compliant, evidence-led responses to formal opportunities. At DellaPip, our tender writing services cover both terms, and our approach doesn’t change depending on which one a client uses.
This matters because businesses often lose contracts not through lack of capability, but because their submission fails to clearly communicate that capability against what the evaluator is actually scoring.
